People often ask me why I decided to have tattoos…. The thing is that I don't have much in common with people without tattoos. Everyone says, 'Why?', 'What came over you?', 'Isn't it inconvenient?' etc., etc…. I suppose tattooed people would understand that the urge to have tattoos is overwhelmingly strong. The desire to breathe the air of the workshop is so great. I enjoy talks & joke with Horiyoshi-III. There's no stopping me. And, I will let my son do the same if he wants to. There are people who don't have tattoos but who adore irezumi. They also make me happy. I personally believe that irezumi should be regarded as Japan's major traditional art, which Japan can proudly show to the world. I would definitely have tattoos done in the town of Noge or Isemachi if I was born again a different person. So, Master Horiyoshi, I'm counting on you! |
